Koen Van Damme

architectural photography

Architecture is the entire impact of a building: the appearance, the use and the spatial experience of a building inside and out, in four dimensions. But it is not always possible to experience architecture in this way. At exhibitions, during lectures, and in publications, pictures must be used to communicate architecture. Thus, architects often surround themselves with various experts in representation media. Koen Van Damme is such an expert. His architectural photography is intense and concentrated, involving much more than just taking pictures. Although reality cannot be captured in a photograph, Koen Van Damme reveals essential beauty by cleverly combining fragments of the whole. His photographs have been published in international architectural magazines such as Architectural Digest, Domus, a.mag, de Architect, A+U. They were also repeatedly awarded in following photography competitions: European Prize of Architectural Photography, Black and White Spider Awards (first prize 2016), Archifocus.
